It’s once again an autograph-a-palooza in 2022 Topps Five Star Baseball. Loading up on signatures of current and former greats, the annual release carries no base cards, parallels or inserts.
Set for release just a few days before Christmas, each box of Five Star will once again contain a single two card pack, with both cards carrying autos. All are on-card except for the cut signatures of long ago greats and the multi-player autograph relic cards.
There’s a heavy dose of gold throughout the card designs.
Autograph Cards
Five Star begins with “base autographs.” Topps is promising a checklist of over 50 players there. Among the parallel versions to be offered:
- Aqua Parallel – #’d to 75 (new this year)
- Purple Parallel – #’d to 50
- Blue Parallel – #’d to 25
- Green Parallel – #’d to 15
- Gold Parallel – #’d to 10
- Orange Parallel – #’d to 5
- Red Parallel – #’d 1 of 1
Two player versions of the Base Autograph cards will be numbered to ten or less and Triples to five or less.
New this year are Baseball Royalty Autographs which, according to Topps will include the “best of the best, retired and active” players.
They’ll be numbered to 15 except for these parallels:
• Gold Parallel – #’d to 10
• Orange Parallel – #’d to 5
• Red Parallel – #’d 1 of 1
Golden Graphs and Silver Signatures are back with the autographs done in gold or silver ink. They’ll be case hits and numbered to 40 or less.
Parallels for the above:
• Purple – #’d to 25
• Blue – #’d to 20
• Green – #’d to 15
• Gold – #’d to 10
• Orange – #’d to 5
• Red – #’d 1 of 1
Five Tool Phenom Autographs will focus on the game’s best and most well-rounded players. They’ll be numbered to 25 or less with 1/1 Five Star Parallels in the mix.
Five Stars Autographs are centered around five players who all share a common bond. Three are shown on the front and two on the back. They’ll be numbered, not surprisingly, to 5.
Five Star Signatures has a checklist of about 60 greats. Some will carry inscriptions. They’ll be tough to pull, with each numbered to 20 or less.
Five Star Pentamerous Penmanship are shadowbox-style cards with a checklist of about 50 players and each will also be numbered to no more than 25 including these parallel possibilities:
• Green – #’d to 10
• Gold – #’d to 5
• Orange – #’d to 3
• Red – #’d 1 of 1
Dual versions will be part of the checklist, with each numbered to 5 or less.
Five Star Cut Signatures and Celebrity Cut Signatures are all, of course, 1/1.
Autographed Relic Cards
There are only two autographed relic card subsets. Five Star Autograph Jumbo Prime Cards feature on-card autographs of the game’s greats, with game-worn uniform pieces, all numbered to 25, with several parallel options:
• Green- #’d to 15
• Gold – #’d to 10
