2022 Topps Chrome Update Baseball returns to the market next month, but for the first time, the set will be offered at hobby shops. So when the product debuts the week of Dec. 21, you won’t have to battle the Christmas crowds at Target.
This year’s product will have 24 packs in a new Hobby box format, with four cards to a pack. Each pack will contain three base cards and a Purple parallel. A typical box will include one Purple parallel per pack, and one insert in every other pack. As we’ve seen in the past, the smaller Mega Boxes are being offered as well with ten packs of four cards inside. Those are sold out through Target but may return in mid-December.
The base set will mirror the flagship product’s Update Series, featuring top rookies and traded players. There will be 200 players in the base set. Parallels also will be in abundance. A full checklist is at the bottom of this page.
Inserts will include chrome versions of Generation Now, Diamond Greats Die-Cuts featuring 75 stars from the past and present and another set featuring players in the 2022 MLB All-Star Game. Autographed versions are also in the mix.
The Chrome Update series will feature dozens of rookie autographs (see the checklist for the full list).
The autograph cards are not guaranteed in a hobby box, as Topps notes in its sell sheet that cards with signatures will appear in “select” boxes.
Boxes are available on eBay for around $160.
