With the new NIL movement in place and the ever changing landscape of collegiate athletics, we’ve been seeing more and more products featuring not only current year’s NFL draft picks but current college star players showing up in football card sets.
The 2022 Bowman’s Best University features the best of the best in college football… and many prospects selected in the recent 2023 NFL Draft. Each master box holds two mini boxes. Each mini box consists of six 5 card packs with one autograph included. Collectors will find two chrome autographed card cards per master box.
The first pack in our first mini box featured a nice base card of USC quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams.
The card right after Williams was one that I liked personally as it featured former record breaking Penn State quarterback, now Green Bay Packers 5th round draft pick Sean Clifford.
The quarterbacks kept coming as we also pulled a Cam Rising purple refractor numbered to 250 out of the same pack.
The third pack and our first mini box featured University of Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson. The same pack also held a great Isreal Abanikanda sparkled up insert, the running back out of the University of Pittsburgh who was selected in the fifth round by the New York Jets.
The following pack had a nice Jaxon Smith-Njigba base card for all of the Ohio State fans out there. JSN was a first round pick by the Seattle Seahawks and seems to have stardom written all over him, as one of (if not) the most talented of the recent impressive OSU WR crop.
We also hit our first autograph (a sticker) in that pack of now Indiana University wide receiver E.J. Williams. Williams transferred from Clemson to IU.
The final packs in the first mini box held a few fun subset and insert cards of quarterbacks including Bo Nix from Oregon and a Bowman Masterpiece insert of Jaren Hall, the BYU QB who was also a fifth round pick. I think we’ve hit the entire fifth round at this point in the box.
The first pack of our second mini offered a nice Jayden Reed parallel numbered to 100. The Packers’ second round pick raised eyebrows with a sub 4.4 40-yard dash time. He could be an important part of the Pack’s Jordan Love fueled future.
The following pack was full of quarterback flavor as we pulled base cards of Stetson Bennett and Tyler Van Dyke. The strong pack ended with a Jaxon Smith-Njigba Fight Song insert card followed by a nice Bijan Robinson refractor.
The next pack had the hits coming as well as we found one of former Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker followed by a card of stud Michigan running back Blake Corum. That was followed by a Gunslingers insert of Houston QB Clayton Tune. This card was die-cut in the form of a burnt wanted poster which is really unique.
The next card in the pack was a refractor Campus Captains of Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Bryce Young (these have scenes from the player’s campus in the background).
The pack ended with a Joey Porter, Jr. Refractor. From Penn State to Pittsburgh, JPJ should be a huge fan favorite. This was another really nice pack.
Our next pack held our second autograph, that of LSU star Maason Smith.
Our next pack had a nice Campus Captains parallel of Purdue’s Aidan O’Connell, numbered to 50.
I’m not sure if what we pulled is worth the current price (right around $150 is where these are sitting at the moment). However, with the sheer amount of cards and young stars in this product, there are certainly far worse gambles in the hobby. If you enjoy the NFL Draft, this was a really fun rip.
