Although we only got a few boxes of the brand new 2022 Bowman Inception Baseball, after a slow start and realizing they barely sell for cost online after paying fees and shipping, we decided to crack one in store.
Bowman was known as The Home of the Rookie Card, which then turned into The Home of the 1st Card. Now, Bowman has a new Inauguration gold stamp of approval on their Inception prospect and rookies.
Hobby boxes offer seven cards, including four base, one parallel, and two autographs, so this will be a very brief breaking of the box.
As expected, it’s prospect heavy, and many minor leaguers are found in their respective MLB uniforms.
The first card we pulled was a Simon Juan, the young Mets prospect who has shown scouts he can combine blazing speed and some power, which always gets them drooling.
The second card is Tampa Bay Rays prospect Kyle Manzardo. The lefty first baseman showed great promise in 2022, mashing 22 home runs, driving in 81 RBI, and batting .327 with two MiLB teams.
The third card in the lineup is one of Boston Red Sox prospect Eddinson Paulino Gold Foil pattern, numbered to 50. The twenty year old SS had a nice 2022 season, hitting 13 HRs and stealing 27 bags.
Our first autograph was found in the cleanup spot with a nice on card sig of Daylen Lile, numbered out of 399.
A second-round draft pick in 2021, Lile missed the entire the 2022 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He hasn’t shown much in limited minor league duty but he’s still only 20 years old and appears healthy now.
Our next autograph was found in the fifth hole, a blue foil parallel of Max Muncy. No, not that Max Muncy but the Oakland A’s prospect by the same name.
There actually was some confusion as Topps placed the sticker autos of the Dodgers star on the young A’s prospect’s 2022 Topps Pro Debut cards. Being on card, this should be the right Muncy, and it’s another beautiful on card autograph, numbered to 99 copies.
Next up was a base card of St. Louis Cardinals prospect Jordan Walker. The right fielder showed a lot of promise in 2022, smacking 19 home runs while stealing 22 bases and hitting over 300 in nearly 500 at bats.
Walker got off to a hot start this spring and will be given a chance to make the opening day lineup.
Our final card in the pack/ box was a base of Tampa Bay Devil Rays second baseman Cooper Kinney. Kenny saw limited action due to injuries and last played in 2021, where he only logged 33 at bats.
Like any Bowman or Bowman related product, Inception is prospect heavy, and although the pack may not seem like much, it could be a prospecting gold mine years down the road. If you don’t get the big hit right out of the gate, you’re definitely playing the long game with young baseball prospects. This box was a perfect example of some potentially nice hits and some already big misses.
Boxes of 2022 Bowman Inception are available on eBay, usually for around $150.
