With the Summer League in Las Vegas and the never ending world of trade talks and free agency, the NBA stays in the daily sports conversation even during the hot summer months.
This week, we grabbed a few of the newly released versions of the always popular Select Basketball line. The 2022-23 product dribbled into the store in Mega box and blaster box form. The Megas offer eight packs with four cards in each–sort of a baby hobby box. With the greatest shooter of all time, Steph Curry adorning the boxes and packs, collectors can look for eight Cracked Ice Prizm parallels that can only be found in the Mega boxes. Autographs exist but aren’t guaranteed.
Our first pack wrapped up with a Cracked Ice Prizm parallel of Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Jaylin Williams, who averaged six points, five rebounds and a few assists per game during his rookie season and there was nothing of note in pack two either.
Pack three held a courtside horizontal parallel of Bulls scoring and dunking sensation Zach Lavine and a prizm parallel of Pacers rookie Andrew Nembhard.
Along the way, we also netted a Johnny Davis rookie card.
The Washington Wizards top pick in ’22, the Wisconsin product sat the bench for most of the season but came on strong late in the year and could be poised for a breakout.
In our next pack we scored a nice Prizm parallel of LeBron James as well as a Malaki Branham Cracked Ice RC.
Select used a very interesting image of Bron, intense, mouth wide open, either racing up the court or racing to complain to the referee.
The very next pack held a nice Cracked Ice Prizm parallel of Utah Jazz big man rookie Walker Kessler. With the blue and gold design, this is a really pretty card.
Kessler more than held his own in the shadow of former Jazz center Rudy Gobert.
We then pulled a green Rookie Revolution insert of the “other” Jalen Williams with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
This Jalen Williams averaged over 14 points per game as a rook, appearing in 75 games.
The next pack had a Select Numbers Zion Williamson insert and a Cracked Ice of Cavs All Star Donovan Mitchell.
We saved the best pack for last as we pulled a solid Prizm card featuring Orlando Magic Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero.
The Duke product came to the league and made an instant impact and held his own like a veteran. Not a bad way to end this rip.
Many of the rookies and bigger stars will go to PSA and if we can nail down some high grades we should at the very least make our money back from this box with current pricing at $50 or less per box. At that price, 2022-23 Select Megas seem like a reasonable roll of the dice.
While there was no massive score, chalk this one up as one of the better wins in recent BBB history.
