The 2023 NBA All-Star Game may be on the horizon but 2021-22 branded products are STILL coming out.
Mosaic Basketball Hobby boxes bounced into the store last week and we grabbed one off the shelf to rip open.
Always a hot ticket landing somewhere in the same space as Prizm, Select and Optic, Mosaic definitely has some big fans out there in the collecting community.
Hobby boxes offer 15 cards per pack in a 10 pack box with one guaranteed autograph. You can also expect to get 20 Prizm parallels in some shape, form or fashion throughout the box.
In our very first pack we hit a white Mosaic Mike Conley numbered to 25. There was also a Moment in Time Larry Bird and Magic Johnson card that happened to be a Mosaic parallel.
That moment during the celebration of Larry Bird’s career where it was revealed that lifetime Laker Magic had the Celtics t-shirt underneath his Lakers warm-ups was a special one and captured perfectly on this card (Mosaic is tough to photograph so the image above doesn’t really do it justice).
We hit big on base rookies in the first pack pulling a Jalen Green and Evan Mobley. That’s a pretty darn stellar first pack.
We had a silver Prizm of Golden State Warriors rookie Jonathan Kuminga in our second pack, then a Steph Curry All-NBA red version.
We also hit back to back Giannis cards with a gold Straight Fire and a Finals MVP subset card.
The next pack kept the heat coming as we pulled our autograph, a rookie autograph of Houston Rockets star Jalen Green in Prizm Mosaic form.
Again, another great pack was ripped as we pulled a white Mosaic Sacramento Kings rookie Davion Mitchell, also numbered to a mere 25 copies.
In the very next pack we hit an ultra rare Rookie Eruption of Houston Rockets rising young star Alperen Sengun. The acetate cards really pop with the various lines and blast of rubble and rocks in the backdrop.
This card paid for the box–and we wound up with much more.
That pack also held rookie cards of Oklahoma City Thunder triple double machine Josh Giddey and Jonathan Kuminga.
The next pack yielded a Rising Stars Prizm of Jaylen Suggs, the cover boy of the product.
The hot rookies kept coming as we pulled a Bones Hyland red and a Rookie Introductions Mosaic, again, of Rockets rook Jaylen Green.
The next pack didn’t offer much more than a Rising Stars rookie year card of Evan Mobley.
I mean, I can only say the next pack had a nice card so many times but it did. In the very next pack we hit a gold Moments in Time LeBron James numbered to 10.
These horizontal inserts are pretty cool, as they take collectors back to key moment from past years. I can remember the vast majority of the moments featured from the box we opened.
The next pack offered a number of Mosaics, parallels and inserts but not of any superstars worth mentioning.
That wraps up what I’d have to say was a pretty spectacular box of 2021 22 Panini Mosaic Basketball Hobby. Hopefully you’re seeing similar results.
Boxes are selling for $275-$300 online right now and there are blasters available as well.
