Topps will bring out the latest edition of one of its more budget-friendly products with the spring arrival of 2021 Big League Baseball. It’s the fourth year for the product, which seems to have gained a following.
Big League leans kid-oriented but also aims to draw in older collectors with some designs that might conjure up memories of sets issued in the 1980s and 90s.
2021 Topps Big League Configuration and Base Set
Big League will come in two configurations: one offers a standard break of 18 packs, each carrying ten cards. Once again this year, there will also be a ‘Collector Box’ with five packs and a Super 7 figurine.
The base set will contain 300 cards featuring rookies, veterans and three other subsets: Award Winners, Highlights and Big League Best.
Base Set Parallels
• Orange Parallel – 1 Per Pack
• Rainbow Foil Parallel – sequentially #’d to 100
• Black and White Parallel – sequentially #’d to 50
• Blue Foil Parallel – sequentially #’d to 25 (new for 2021)
• Black Foil Parallel – sequentially #’d to 15 (new for 2021)
• Red Foil Parallel – #’d 1-of-1
Inserts
There will be four new insert sets in Big League including Souvenirs, which will “celebrate the top power-hitting gift givers from around the league, who are launching collectibles into the stands on a nightly basis,” according to Topps.
Home Team Traditions will highlight some of the most well-known traditions and gameday activities inside each MLB ballpark.
Wanted, also found once in every four packs, will be focused on players who are “looking to rob you
blind with their glove.”
Art of the Game marries original art with some of the top veterans and rookies from around the league.
Defensive Wizards inserts will also return to the checklist for 2021.
Souvenirs, Wanted and Defensive Wizards will all have autograph parallel versions with Electric Orange parallels (numbered to 99) and 1/1 Red Foil versions.
Autographs
Autographs won’t be easy pulls in a product designed to cost less than $40 per hobby box but they’ll be out there in base form as well as on Opening Act cards, with the same Orange and Red parallels described above.
Super 7 Figurines
As was the case in 2020, Topps and Super7 have collaborated with the figurine lineup of ten players available in the Collector Boxes. They can be collected in a variety of image and card back variations including:
*1983 Topps Cardback Design with 1/1 Gold parallels possible
*1983 Topps Cardback Design Image Variations (1:10 boxes) with 1/1 Gold parallels
*1959 Topps Cardback Design (1:4 boxes) with 1/1 Gold parallels
*1959 Topps Cardback Design Image Variation (1:20 Boxes) with 1/1 Gold parallels
The release date for 2021 Topps Big League Baseball is May 19.
