Upper Deck has rolled out plans for 2020-21 Series 2 hockey. The second half of the annual flagship product will arrive March 10. Series 1 released n November.
2020-21 Upper Deck Series 2 Configuration
Each hobby box of Series 2 will have 24 packs of eight cards. Expect six of the ever popular Young Guns, along with four Canvas, four Portraits Rookies and four OPC Update rookies in each box.
Base Set and Inserts
Series 2’s base set picks up where 1 left off, with cards #251-500.
Base Set parallels include Exclusives (# to 100); High Gloss (# to 10), Clear Cut, a hobby-exclusive parallel numbered to 96 and new French parallels found one in every 30 packs.
Young Guns will comprise the final 50 cards of the base set. They’ll have Exclusives parallels numbered to 100; High Gloss (# to 10); Clear Cut (one in every 288 packs and French (1 in every 120 packs). The Young Guns checklist won’t be out until closer to release day.
Canvas Young Guns will be found one in every two boxes with Team Canada Program of Excellence Canvas cards a much tougher pull at 1:192. High Series – Retired is another element of the Canvas line.
UD Portraits Rookies picks up from Series 1 with cards #51-100. They will have Gold Foil Parallels #’d to 99 and Platinum Blue Foil Parallels #’d to 25.
New to Series 2 is the Box Filler insert set featuring some of the top enforcers in the NHL – past and present – on PETG stock.
The O-Pee-Chee Update and Retro Update sets are back. Both feature rookies the regular O-Pee-Chee set doesn’t have as well as 2019-20 award winners. There are some parallels to look for (see complete Breakdown below).
Dazzlers, which will debut in Series 1, will also be part of Series 2, with 50 additional cards planned for the checklist. Splashy colors are used to highlight active stars. There are two color variations for each player – Blue and Pink.
The Fluorescence insert also set returns with four color variations, a new rookie class and cards numbered as low as 5.
Day With The Cup cards will again arrive in Series 2, featuring members of the 2019-20 Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning.

New to Series 2 are Rookie Materials and Rookie Dual Materials, each with low-numbered patch parallels possible, with a breakdown that looks like this:

Rookie Photoshoot (RPS) Flashback Materials will showcase some of the players that were part of Upper Deck’s annual Rookie Photo Shoots. Each card in the regular set features a swatch from the jersey the player wore alongside a photo from the event. There’ll be a Patch parallel, numbered to 15.
