Topps and Target have teamed up again for the release of 2019 Topps Chrome Update, offering seven pack “Mega Boxes” exclusively through the retail giant. Boxes have been trickling out in some areas but weren’t available on Target.com as of Wednesday afternoon.
The product’s checklist (see below) is much the same as the standard version of the regular Update product but with a chrome look.
Each Mega Box holds seven packs with four cards per pack at a retail price of $19.99. There are also Hangar packs, which include three regular Chrome Update packs but also include two Pink Refractors that can only be found in those packs.
There’s a 100-card base set, with the first 50 cards leaning heavily on rookies with some veterans in the mix. #51-65 are labeled Rookie Debut while #66-100 are All-Stars. There are autographed versions of some of the base cards, most of which are rookies.
Inserts in 2019 Chrome Update include The Family Business and 100 Years of Professional Baseball. Each has a 25 card checklist with ten autographed parallels.
Among the autographs spread across the product are Fenando Tatis Jr., Vladimir Guerrero, Eloy Jimenez, Pete Alonso, Keston Hiura, Ken Griffey Jr., Cal Ripken Jr., and Nolan Ryan. Most of the autographs, however, are from a wide variety of first-year players.
There are 11 different Refractor color parallels to chase, serial numbered from 250 all the way down to 1/1 SuperFractors and Printing Plates.
Autographs, according to the odds listed on the packs, seem to be more plentiful than Refractor parallels at one in every 40 packs. Autographs have five different parallel versions, numbered from 125 down to 1/1 SuperFractors.
