Topps has produced a new product in conjunction with StockX and you can help decide what it’ll cost.
On Monday, 2019 Bowman Chrome X was launched as an “IPO” on the StockX website. Each box will include one prospect card or rookie that’s exclusive to the product. Each card is numbered to 31. The checklist includes 100 cards: 35 rookies and 65 prospects. The cards are essentially parallels to the regular Bowman Chrome set. All cards have been pre-graded by PSA and each card is rated 9 or 10.
One-card boxes are currently being offered on the StockX website and bids per box or five-box case are being accepted through Wednesday, October 30.
It’s a modified blind Dutch auction in which you bid the highest price you’re willing to pay. However, the quantity of boxes (1,100) and cases (400) available) and the number of bids will determine the price.
The lowest bid for the 400th case and 1,100th box is what everyone who placed a bid at that level or above will pay. In short, even if you bid well over the lowest bid that was enough to win box #1,100, you’ll get one for the lowest winning bid.
Once the auction ends, StockX will inform bidders if they’ve won and what the lowest clearing price was.
As of 6:30 PM Eastern time Monday, nearly 1,100 bids had been placed for boxes and over 800 for cases.
This is the first time Topps has released a product exclusively on a secondary platform like Detroit-based StockX.
Among the players on the checklist: Pete Alonso, Fernando Tatis Jr., Vladimir Guerrero, Eloy Jimenez, Keston Hiura, Austin Riley, Bo Bichette, Royce Lewis, Joe Adell and Joey Bart. There are no autographs in the product.
Information and the bidding platform can be found here.
StockX has also brought its platform to buying and selling individual cards. You can check out that marketplace here.
