Putting up bricks never felt so good. Hobby boxes of 2019-2020 Donruss basketball will contain 10 packs, with a brick-like total of 30 cards per pack. It’s the same format Panini introduced last year.
Hitting the shelves the week of December 13, the Donruss base set will include 250 cards — 200 veterans and 50 Rated Rookies.
Parallel chasers who open hobby boxes will have plenty of Rated Rookie parallels choose from — Red Laser, Blue Laser and Gold Laser. Collectors who prefer to buy retail won’t be left out, as there will be Holo Green Laser and Holo Yellow parallels.
A typical hobby box will include 60 parallels/and or inserts and at least one autograph and one relic card. The auto/relic configuration is the same as Donruss’ 2018-2019 set.
Autograph cards will present several options for collectors, with an emphasis on rookies. Returning are Next Day Autographs, with on-card signatures from 42 different first-year players.
Making its debut for the 2019-2020 set, Rated Rookies Signatures also has a large checklist, with 47 autographs. Tough pulls will include hobby-exclusive Press Proof Gold (numbered to 10) and Press Proof Black Laser (1/1) parallels while retail autograph parallels will be Holo Yellow Laser cards.
Memorabilia cards will include Jersey Kings and Rookie Jersey Kings, each containing a player’s uniform swatch.
As for inserts, hobby exclusive Crunch Time cards have a cereal box look to them, a food-based nod throwback to the 1998-1999 SkyBox Premium That’s Jam set and E-X Century Dunk ’N Go Nuts from the same year. Other inserts — all hobby exclusive — will include Craftsman, Defying Gravity, Net Marvels, Retro Series and The Rookies.
