Collectors looking for the first high-end hockey product of the season will find it in late November with the arrival of 2019-20 Upper Deck Black Diamond, which returns for another year of tiny gems, autographs and a taste of the Exquisite brand thrown in for good measure.
Black Diamond boxes aren’t big–just six cards per box including the one-card bonus back that holds an Exquisite card.
There will be a 70-card base set with 60 active stars and ten NHL legends.
If you were collecting in the 90s, you might appreciate Upper Deck planning a 1996-97 Black Diamond Relic Tribute insert set utilizing that 23-year-old design for a 30-card set that includes past and current greats as well as 2019-20 rookies.
Also new:
- Jewels of the Draft, an insert set featuring autograph patch cards of the top rookies.
- Sparking Scripts, an autograph insert that will also have Spectrum parallels numbered as low as 25.
Upper Deck is also utilizing black diamonds for the first time along with the standard gems. Look for them in the Diamond Relic Rookie gems, Base Set and ’96-97 Tribute cards.
