If you like the old school brand and its slicker cousin, Panini is hoping you’ll really like 2019-20 Clearly Donruss. The new brand makes its debut this fall, putting a see-through spin on NBA cards from the previously released Donruss and Optic sets.
While Optic took Donruss and gave it a chrome look, Clearly will be done entirely on acetate stock.
Each box will have four packs with five cards per pack. Cases will hold 12 boxes. The lack of a guaranteed autograph should keep prices somewhat in check, although virtually any basketball box now sells for well over SRP.
The design will mimic the base Donruss and Optic sets.
Autographs, Inserts and Parallels
While autographs aren’t guaranteed in hobby boxes, they will be out there. Look for Rated Rookie signatures from Zion Williamson, Ja Morant and the rest of the 2019 draft class. There will be plenty of parallels to chase, although Panini didn’t reveal exactly how many different ones will be on the checklist. There will be 1/1s.
Inserts such as The Rookies, My House, Star Gazing, Defying Gravity and All Clear for Takeoff will be “reimagined” on the acetate stock, according to Panini.
Parallels will be a big part of the insert sets, too, numbered as low as 1/1.
Rare Holographic and Holographic Mosaic parallels will give a different look and feel to the cards but they’ll be tough pulls. Autographed versions of the top rookies will likely be among the top pulls.
2019-20 Clearly Donruss is scheduled to be released on November 4. Boxes are available on eBay now.
