What would a baseball card set look like if a Major League Baseball player created it? We now have the answer if the player is Bryce Harper.
With help from Topps, the Washington Nationals star has created his own set, featuring top players in the league, his all-time favorites – and even guys with the best hair.
Topps X Bryce Harper “220” is a first-of-its-kind set where Harper hand-picked the design, chose the players, theme, and added his own words to it. They’ll only be available for 30 days.
“I have never done anything like this to really design a product, put something forward like this,” said Harper whose father collected baseball cards. “I’ve done cleats and bats, but to be able to do a baseball card is special.”
“220” is a title picked by Harper to signify his personal mantra of “Second to None.” The design incorporates a little of his hometown of Las Vegas and a nod to the craft of his father, an iron worker.
The set has 14 base cards featuring players Harper would choose if he picked his own team and 16 other subset cards including:
- Best Hair: Harper’s top five MLB players with great hair
- Harper’s Heroes: highlights his all-time favorite moments in MLB history
- Look Good, Feel Good: Showcases Harper on and off the field.
The set comes in two formats. There’s a standard set for $24.99 with a one in three chance of landing a parallel card (Black # to 25); Red (# to 10) and Gold (1/1).
The other option is a set that guarantees an autograph or relic card for $50. Autograph subjects include Harper (some on-card, some sticker), Mike Trout, Yadier Molina, Manny 
Machado, Marcell Ozuna, J.D. Martinez, Jacob DeGrom and Dansby Swanson. Again, there’s a 1 in 3 chance of nabbing a serial-numbered parallel. All relic cards feature Harper memorabilia.
Harper is the first person to be featured for the personalized sets from Topps, which says more athletes and entertainers are being invited to create sets of their own.
