Those who buy a box of baseball cards next week when Series 1 arrives should receive a bonus: a 2018 Topps Silver Pack.
Back for the second straight year, the promotion offers a special four-card bonus pack at participating hobby shops and online retailers. Collectors who buy a Hobby box (36 packs) receive one pack while those purchasing a Jumbo box (12 large packs) will get two packs. Inside are four chrome cards on a design that commemorates the 35th anniversary of the company’s 1983 baseball set.
The cards have a refractor pattern with a checklist that includes Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, Andrew Benintendi, Bryce Harper, Kris Bryant and other young stars. Twenty-two of the cards are rookies. A few former greats are also included in the 50-card base set.
There are randomly inserted autographs and color parallel cards. Hank Aaron, Derek Jeter and Mike Trout are among those whose autographs can be pulled but they’ll be tough to find.
A complete checklist of base cards and autographs is linked below along with video of a pack being opened by Topps on Wednesday.
Collectors can find the following parallels (the bolded refractors are included for autograph cards):
Blue Refractor (numbered to 150)
Green Refractor (numbered to 99)
Purple Refractor (numbered to 75)
Gold Refractor (numbered to 50)
Orange Refractor (numbered to 25)
Red Refractor (numbered to 5)
Superfractor (numbered 1-of-1)
2018 Topps Series 1 is set for release January 31. The Silver Packs promotion will continue with Series 2 set for release in June.
2017 Topps Silver packs and cards are available on eBay. Complete base sets usually sell for $50-$75 each.
