Topps announced earlier this year that National Baseball Card Day would return for a third straight season and we now have a few more details about the promotion that involves hobby shops and a wider audience at major league ballparks during late July and August.
Over one million special six-card packs will be distributed. For collectors visiting hobby shops, August 11 will be the day to circle. That’s when participating stores will hand out the free packs. If you spend $10 or more, you’ll also receive a bonus card featuring Aaron Judge. Come back on Saturday, August 25 and spend another $10 on Topps products and you’ll get a second exclusive card featuring an as yet unannounced 2018 rookie.
The cards feature the NBCD logo and the checklist includes some top young stars. Some have been autographed and will be randomly inserted into packs.
The ballpark part of the event is listed on each MLB team’s promotional calendar. The Tigers and Braves will be among the first to hand out free packs, with both planning the giveaway in late July. Other teams will set their own date during August, depending on their home schedule and other promotional plans.
