A little over a month after the release of 2018 Topps Series One, Panini will push out its own flagship baseball product. 2018 Donruss baseball makes use of the company’s MLBPA license with a mix of designs from the brand’s heyday and some modern touches.
Donruss hobby boxes will have eight cards per pack and 24 packs per box, but again this year, Panini will offer blaster boxes, hangar boxes and jumbo packs, all with their own retail exclusive cards. Hobby boxes will have three autograph or memorabilia cards, four inserts, five base parallels and one variation parallel. Panini is promising twice as many variations as last year with nicknames and different photos typically featured.
Fans of the 1984 Donruss set design will see it revived in ’18. Look for all 5 parallels including:
Retro Signatures Blue – #’d/99 or less
Retro Signatures Red – #’d/25 or less
Retro Signatures Gold – #’d/10 or less
Retro Signatures Green – #’d/5 or less
Retro Signatures Black – numbered 1 of 1
Signature Series Red and Gold will feature current young stars and past greats, respectively with parallels as listed above.
Promising Pro Materials is a memorabilia subset featuring up and coming players.
Two staples from old school Donruss are back with Rated Rookies and Diamond Kings.
Among the insert sets are Long Ball Leaders, showcasing some of the majors’ top power hitters from 2017, Out of This World which features some of baseball’s best young hitters on a space-oriented design; Whammy, a cartoon-like subset that has current players and Mickey Mantle.
2018 Donruss baseball is set for release on March 7 with hobby boxes likely priced at $70-$75.
