Beckett Grading Services will showcase the most talked about 2018 baseball card at this week’s National Sports Collectors Convention: the 2018 Bowman Chrome Shohei Ohtani Superfractor Autograph.
The subject of a $100,000 bounty as Ohtani made his dual threat debut with the Angels this spring, the 1/1 card will be on display in the Beckett Media booth during the entire run of The National, Aug. 1-5, before it crosses the auction block on Thursday, Sept. 13. Beckett believes it will sell for a six-figure price tag.
The Ohtani card was pulled by Sacramento collector John Muheim earlier this summer. He turned it over to Beckett Grading and it’ll be sold through Goodwin and Company Auctions.
“When I pulled it from the pack it took me a few seconds to realize what I had,” explained Muheim. “Once I saw the gold, I got really excited and immediately got the card right into a holder. This is a beautiful card, and I can’t wait for everyone at The National to see it. I have been a collector for a long time, and pulling this card was amazing.”
“The 2018 Bowman Chrome Shohei Ohtani Superfractor Autograph was the most anticipated card of the year,” said Jeromy Murray, Vice President, Beckett Grading Services. “The fact that this premium product featured one of the biggest global names in baseball, who is having a Rookie of the Year-caliber season, made it 2018’s most valuable trading card. There is no other way to say it, this card is the most valuable sports card issued by manufacturers this year.
“John (Muheim) and everyone at Beckett agreed a card of this magnitude should be shared with as many collectors as possible. It will easily sell for six figures, and being able to say you saw it in person will definitely make this a National Sports Collectors Convention to remember.”
