2017 Topps Gypsy Queen baseball will come with a lower price and two fewer cards per box. Set for release just before Opening Day—slightly earlier than the 2016 product—Gypsy Queen will carry eight cards per pack, rather than ten, with dealer cost at least $20 less per box than it was this year. Each box will still contain two autographed cards along with seven inserts. It appears relics have been de-emphasized and there’s no mini parallel set in the works.
A full 2017 Topps Gypsy Queen checklist is available for download at the bottom of this page along with options to purchase the product via online sellers.
2017 Topps Gypsy Queen Base Set
Topps has shaken up the base set just a bit. There will be a 300 card base set with 20 additional short featuring retired greats. In the past, there have been 50 SPs in addition to the 300 base cards. Color parallels will include Purple, Black and White (numbered to 50 and found in hobby boxes only), Red (# to 10) and Black (1/1).
Image variations will play a prominent role in 2017 Gypsy Queen with throwback variations, including the “capless” ones featuring players from the base set without their caps.
Insert Cards
In addition to image and content variations, this year’s release will also feature two new insert subsets showcasing “predictions” of events set to occur throughout the 2017 MLB season.
Fortune Tellers Minis showcase predictions of events set to occur throughout the 2017 MLB season. They’ll have 1/1 black parallels while Portrait Art Reproductions feature what Topps calls “exquisitely-detailed artistic player portraits.”
Autograph Relics
The big chase cards in 2017 Topps Gypsy Queen baseball will be the three panel booklets featuring an on-card autograph, two player images and an oversized multi-color patch piece. All are sequentially numbered with 1/1 Black parallels.
Sequentially numbered Autograph Garments come with signatures and jersey or bat pieces. Black parallel versions will have a game-used jersey button when available and are numbered 1/1.
Laces Around the League will be along the lines of a similar relic concept from prior Gypsy Queen releases, but adding an on-card autograph with pieces cut from game-used baseballs.
Autographs
The standard Gypsy Queen autographs will feature active veterans, rookies, and retired greats. They’ll have numbered Purple and Black and White parallels along with 1/1 Black parallels.
Chewing Gum Minis are “inspired by tobacco-era card designs,” according to Topps. They’ll be numbered and have the 1/1 Black parallel versions to chase.
2017 Topps Gypsy Queen will include unannounced autograph variations as well.
Box Toppers
New to 2017, each GQ hobby box will have an oversized chrome box topper called GQ Glassworks. Purple, Red (# to 25), and Black (1/1) parallels will be in the mix.
There will also be low-numbered autograph versions with on-card signatures.
1/1 Autographed Portraits
There will be some original art in GQ. Portrait Art Patch Originals are hand-drawn player portraits with a game-used patch piece. The 1/1 art cards will be randomly distributed in cases.
2017 Topps Gypsy Queen baseball is set for release the week of March 29.
