The buybacks are back. Topps has told wholesalers and dealers that it’ll make a big promotional push for its 2017 ‘Rediscover Ultimate Card Giveaway’ program. The company has acquired two million cards from past releases, including some from the early 1950s, and will be putting them inside several different products next year.
These limited edition cards will be inserted into packs in the following 2017 Topps Baseball releases:
2017 Bowman Baseball
2017 Topps Series 2 Baseball
2017 Topps Allen and Ginter
2017 Topps Update Baseball
The cards will be stamped with a foil Rediscover logo so consumers can identify them. Cards will fall roughly 1 in every 6 packs. The most valuable cards will not be stamped, however, so no worries if you pull a Nolan Ryan rookie card and would really rather not have it ruined by a big, ugly stamp.
There will be multiple levels of rarity in the foil logos for those who want to chase them.
The giveaway portion will include redemptions for a free Topps NOW card (apparently the program will indeed be back in ’17) and exclusive Topps Bunt cards found only in the Rediscover program.
Also included in the program are promotional cards (also falling about 1 in 6 packs) that detail the program on one side and provide a code on the other that can unlock additional prizes when it is virtually redeemed at Topps.com.
Topps says the Rediscover cards “will be incremental in the packs” rather than take the place of another card and are simply a bonus to collectors who open packs of its 2017 products.
Topps says it will heavily promote the 2017 buyback promotion with a campaign that will include the use of television advertising. 2017 Topps Series One is due out in early February.
