Upper Deck has given distributors and retailers a heads up on 2017 National Hockey Card Day. The program returns to trading card shops in the U.S. and Canada Saturday, February 18.
Once again, collectors can visit participating stores for a free five-card NHCD pack.
Almost 500 trading card shops will take part in the promotion, giving away close to 300,000 packs of cards in North America hobby shops and 40,000 nine-card sheets in Canada.
The base set in each country will have 15 cards along with a 16th “Memorable Moments” card of rookie Auston Matthews that can be acquired with a $10 purchase (Matthews is also card #1 in the base set). A full checklist is below.
The U.S. set consists of players on American-based NHL teams and others who grew up in the States. The Canadian set will have a similar configuration. The 2016-17 rookie class has shown promise and among the cards to look for in the U.S. set include Victory Black rookies of Tyler Motte and Nick Schmaltz (Chicago), Zach Werenski (Columbus), Ivan Provorov (Philadelphia) and Jimmy Vesey (New York).
Autographed cards will also be randomly inserted into 2017 National Hockey Card Day packs.
You can see the cards that will be distributed in each country here.
