National Baseball Card Day will return in 2017. This year’s promotion will take place in hobby shops on August 12.
The announcement was made last spring at the annual Industry Summit conference in Las Vegas and on Monday, Topps revealed a little more about the promotion.
The usual free six-card packs are slated to be given away at hobby shops and at ballparks. Shops will have to pay 50 cents each for the packs they hand out. Based on Topps promotional literature, the checklist will include Kris Bryant, Bryce Harper, Noah Syndergaard, Francisco Lindor and Corey Seager.
If collectors spend $10 on Topps products at their local store, they’ll also get a free Mike Trout card, exclusive to National Baseball Card Day.
Look for players making promotional and autograph appearances in conjunction with the event. Online retailer Blowout Cards has promised to shut down its storefront on August 12, encouraging collectors to visit the shop closest to them instead of ordering online.
Major League teams will again host stadium trading card giveaways in the days leading up to the event.
Four-card packs featuring team specific players will be distributed to fans as they enter the ballpark. Each team has 10 current and former players in the sets, except for the Mets (9) and Phillies (20).
