Panini considers Donruss to be its football flagship brand—a lower priced product released just prior to the start of the season. 2017 Donruss Football will arrive on August 2, just as training camps and pre-season games become part of the sports landscape.
Each hobby box of 2017 Donruss Football will contain 24 packs with 10 cards per pack but you’ll need a few boxes to complete the 400-card base set because of the amount of inserts and other special cards. Each box will have one autograph, one memorabilia card, 24 rookies, 24 Rated Rookies and 40 inserts at around $73 suggested retail.
Eight-pack blaster boxes will be sold, too, with 11 rookies of Rated Rookies, one parallel, three inserts and one memorabilia card in each for around $20.
Panini will make use of photos captured during the recent NFL Rookie Premiere in Los Angeles for the 2017 Donruss football set.
They’re dusting off the design that launched Donruss as a sport card brand back in 1981 with a special “1981 Tribute” insert. Among the new insert sets for 2017 are Ground Force, Up Tempo, Salute to Service and Highlights, which is a throwback to the company’s post-season baseball “Highlights” sets that were released in box form during the 1980s.
Among the hits to look for are Rookie Phenom Jersey Autographs featuring Prime and Tag versions numbered to as low as one. Also on that list are All-Time Gridiron Kings autographs, Signature Marks and Donruss Threads.
