While you’re on the hunt for clearance sales of fireworks, Topps is hoping you’ll grab a box of 2017 Bowman Platinum Baseball at your local Walmart. The product has a release date of July 5 as an in-store exclusive. It’ll be available in a “Collector Box” for $70; a $20 blaster and a $6 single oversize pack. The most expensive box will be similar to a hobby box in that it will contain two autographs.
2017 Bowman Platinum Base Set and Image Variations
Topps says the base set will feature 100 cards of MLB veterans but rookies will be the big draw. Cody Bellinger’s first in-pack rookie card will be in Platinum and Aaron Judge will also have a rookie card in the product. In all, 30 of the 70 cards on the checklist (see below) are rookie cards.
There will be seven image variations to chase in the base set (Kris Bryant, Mike Trout, Andrew Benintendi, Yoan Moncada, Mookie Betts, Alex Bregman and Dansby Swanson).
The autograph checklist is heavy on rookies and prospects. There are 35 Bowman Platinum Prospects autos including Blake Rutherford, Ian Happ, Jason Groome and Nick Senzel. Collectors also have a chance to pull foil board parallels numbered to 150 or less.
Autograph subsets include Tools of the Craft, Rookie Radar, Platinum Cut and Platinum Presence.
The headline insert set in 2017 Bowman Platinum is Top Prospects, a 100-card issue that includes Clint Frazier, Eloy Jimenez, Mickey Moniak, Gleyber Torres and others. The Top Prospects set will also include Purple, Green, Orange (Collector Box only), Royal Blue (Fat Packs Only), Black (Value Box Only), Gold Foil parallels, and Printing Plates.
In addition, there are 10 short-printed players in the Top Prospects set: Austin Meadows, Adrian Moregon, Bo Bichette, Bradley Zimmer, Cody Sedlock, Dominic Smith, Isan Diaz, Justus Sheffield, Matt Manning and Ozzie Albies.
Other inserts include Bowman’s Next Generation, Rookie Radar and Platinum Presence.
