Topps unveiled plans for a new weekly, print-to-order card set on Thursday , dipping into its long history of card production to create sets of current players using some classic old designs. The 2016 Topps Throwback Thursday cards will be sold online only.
Each week, the company will offer a small set that will be printed to a quantity based on orders, much like its Topps NOW program that features highlights and milestones from each day’s action.
The first set of Throwback Thursday cards is a six-card offering done in the style of the 1955 Bowman Baseball set. The players in Set No. 1 “Players to Watch” include Bryce Harper, Mike Trout, Kris Bryant, Clayton Kershaw, Corey Seager, and Trevor Story. The photo poses should conjure up images of that ’55 design.
“Throwback Thursday is a fun way to blend the nostalgia of Topps with the celebration of today’s stars,” said Jeff Heckman, Director, New Product Development & eCommerce Marketplace at Topps. “We kicked it off with one of the most popular trading card designs in history, and we have some great themes lined up for coming weeks that will excite baseball fans and collectors.”
Every Thursday, Topps will list a new Throwback Thursday trading card set its website. They will be on sale for just one week, and the print runs will be released at the end of that week. Shipping is free in the U.S. with the SmartPost option. You can get the info here.
