Topps Premier Gold soccer will have a new look in 2016, with more cards per box and a cheaper price tag — but fewer hits. The product still will showcase the best soccer talent from the English Premier League and is scheduled to hit stores and online outlets the week of November 23.
The 2016 configuration will feature 12 packs per hobby box, with 10 cards per pack. Topps is guaranteeing one autograph card and a combination of either two auto or memorabilia cards in every hobby box. The suggested retail price for a hobby box will hover around $100; last year, the cost was in the $165 range and there were five cards to a mini-box and 10 minis to a display box.
Along with this year’s active players, Premier Gold also will include retired soccer greats in inserts like Moments Autographs. This will be a subset that commemorates the league’s finest moments; autographs are expected to be low serial numbers. Other highlights will include Premier Portraits, which will feature hand-drawn sketch cards of the league’s top players. Brilliance of the Pitch insert and autograph cards will recognize the career achievements of the Premier League’s all-time greats.
The base set also will include current stars and iconic players from the past.
Topps said it will release design previews and checklist information later this summer.
