If you’re missing football, you can get a void filler with the release of 2016 Panini Plates and Patches. Due out Friday, P&P offers only five cards per pack for around $90 online but everything pulled will be numbered to 99 or less.
If the name sounds kind of familiar, Plates and Patches has been issued before but it’s been five years since Panini last used the brand name. This year’s configuration will be different than the older product.
2016 Panini Plates & Patches Overview
Each box will guarantee one on-card autograph or Rookie Patch auto along with one memorabilia card and a 1/1 printing plate. A base card and base parallel will round out each pack.
The majority of the autographs appear to be signed directly on the cards although several players have signed stickers. Panini appears to use a few more general action photos with this release although some of the images for the memorabilia cards are posed shots.
Autograph & Relic Subsets
The best autograph pulls appear to be those from past greats. Canton Calligraphy features some of the top Hall of Famers of all-time with the cards carrying the Pro Football Hall of Fame logo. Game Changers and Signal Callers are two other subsets featuring on-card signatures.
Rookie autographs will come with a “prime” swatch and last season’s top talents will be part of the mix.
Rookie Quad Jerseys, Double Coverage (two oversized swatches) and Full Coverage will be subsets inside the relic card checklist. Full rookie nameplate pieces can be found but they’ll be tough pulls inside Full Coverage.
