While we’ve seen some former hobby products become retail exclusives and even a few new brands enter the market as such in recent years, 2016-17 Panini Threads basketball is making a hobby shop comeback.
2016-17 Panini Threads Basics 
Threads hasn’t been seen in sports card shops since 2012-13 and disappeared entirely for a bit. This season’s product releases Wednesday, May 17 with six cards per pack and 20 packs per box. Each box will hold, on average, one autograph, one memorabilia card, two Leather Rookies (part of a 30-card set) and 18 other inserts or parallels.
Threads features a 50-card base rookie set.
Autograph and Memorabilia Cards
Hobby only autograph subsets include Signage, Rookie Signage, NBA Legends Ink, Team Threads Die-Cut, Team Threads Die-Cut Rookies. Look for Gold (# to 10)( and 1/1 Platinum parallels.
Debut, Authentic and Century Collection memorabilia cards will have Prime parallels numbered to 25 or less.
Hobby/Retail Exclusives
While blaster boxes will return to the retail site, there are plenty of cards you’ll find only in the hobby boxes including:
Red, Holofoil, Gold and Platinum parallels, and short-printed inserts. Century Stars (one per case), Automatic, Bringing Down the House, Swingmen and The Rooks.
Likewise, the retail-only side will have its own chase elements including Wood and Micro-Etch Rookie Cards. Century Proof Dazzle parallels will also be retail only while its parallels will only be found in certain types of retail product such as packs and blisters.
