2015 Topps Museum Collection football aims to present a higher-end, elegant product for collectors. A final checklist is available for download at the bottom of this article.
The Basics
Set to hit the shelves on February 5, just two days before Super Bowl 50 in San Francisco, Museum Football will contain four packs per hobby box, with five cards per pack, housed in a mini-box; there will be 12 boxes to a case.
Each pack in this hobby exclusive product will contain a hit — Topps is promising a repeat of last year: an on-card autograph, an autograph relic, a Quad Relic and a Jumbo relic per hobby box. The rest of a typical pack will have three base cards and a base parallel.
The price range will be around $150 to $170 per hobby box.
Case hits will include one Museum Jumbo Relic, a Museum Collection Framed Autograph and for the first time, an Oversized Framed on-card autograph.
The Breakdown
There are 100 cards in the base set, with a mixture of rookies, veterans and retired greats. Parallels will be in copper, sapphire (numbered to 99), 60th Anniversary (naturally, numbered to 60), amethyst (25) and emerald (1/1).
But to be truthful, those who buy Topps Museum Collection are not looking to complete base sets. It’s the autographs, relics, framed and canvas cards that really drive the product.
Relics and Autographs
Museum Jumbo Patch autographs will feature the top rookies with on-card signatures and generously large NFL jersey patches. Parallels will be found in copper, numbered to 15; gold (10), and for the first time, a 1/1 emerald parallel with a Swoosh logo patch.
The Signature Swatches Triple Relic will combine up to 25 veteran and/or rookie autographs with a pair of NFL jersey swatches and an NFL jersey patch. Parallels will be in copper, gold (numbered to 25) and a 1/1 emerald parallel with a multi-colored patch.
Similarly, the Signature Swatches Dual relic ups the ante to 30 different player possibilities with a NFL jersey swatch or patch. Copper parallels will weigh in numbered at 50, gold at 25, and a 1/1 emerald multi-color patch.
Oversized Framed autograph patch cards will sport an on-card signature and a large patch. Variations will include Glove Logo, Draft Hat and Jersey Team Logo patches.
As far as all-star games go, the Pro Bowl gets its share of abuse. But the 2015 Museum set fares much better with its Pro Bowl Signature Swatches dual relic. Pro Bowl players are featured with an autograph, a Pro Bowl jersey swatch and a jersey patch. Parallels are copper, numbered to 25; gold patch (10); and three different 1/1 emeralds — multi-color, Team Logo Patch and Pro Bowl Logo Patch.
Signature Series autographs are also hard signed and will feature up to 50 veterans, top rookies or retired greats. Copper parallels (/25) and gold (/5) will be joined by silver and gold ink parallels, each numbered to 5. An emerald parallel is 1/1, and so is a new 60th Anniversary Parallel (celebrating Topps’ 60th year in the football card business).
Dual signatures will feature 10 different pairs of autographs, with parallels in silver and gold ink signatures numbered to 5 along with an emerald and 60th Anniversary (both 1/1s).
Players who have hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy will be the focus in the Super Bowl Signature Series subset. These cards will be numbered to 10, and 1/1 emerald parallel will make its debut this year.
Framed autograph cards feature 35 different players, with an on-card signature and a framed border. Silver frames, gold frames with gold ink (numbered to 10), and a 1/1 black frame signed in silver ink return, along with the new 60th Anniversary gold ink (also a 1/1).
Canvas Collection and Vintage Canvas Collection are 1/1 cards that sports the original paintings from the canvas insert versions, along with that player’s autograph.
Some other items of note:
Relics — Jumbos, Pro Bowls, Logo Relics and Laundry Tag Relics, Dual Jumbo Relic Book cards and NFL shields.
A vintage Canvas Collection card will feature a jumbo relic piece from a leather helmet.
Insert Cards
Inserts will focus on canvas cards, with reproductions of paintings and scarcer originals; the artists will autograph the originals. Vintage Canvas will portray 10 top NFL rookies in vintage leather helmets. And Vintage Canvas Originals will be 1/1 cards, original paintings and the artists’ signature.
