The NFL/Panini exclusive will kick off in a matter of weeks as the 2016 branded products begin to trickle out but as for now the collecting calendar remains on the just completed 2015 season. The Super Bowl will be but a memory and the draft just a gleam in fans’ eyes but in early April, 2015 Flawless Football makes its return.
Panini America has released some details on what it called the hobby’s “most extravagant” issue. Flawless made its football debut in 2014, albeit earlier in the year and returns to close out the 2015 product parade.
There’s no word yet on cost but last year’s boxes are selling at around $1,500-$1,600.
The Breakdown
Each 10-card box of 2015 Flawless Football will deliver six on card autographs, two memorabilia cards and two gemstone cards. There’s no word yet on cost but it’s one of the hobby’s priciest issues and in the past has come in a metal briefcase.
New Autograph Signers
Panini has rounded up some fresh autograph signers who have put their names directly on cards. The roster will include Aaron Rodgers, Brian Urlacher, Clay Matthews, Dick Butkus, Don Majkowski, Hines Ward, Jack Ham, James Harrison,Jim McMahon, John Stallworth, Michael Strahan, Mike Ditka, Tony Dorsett and others.
Great Patches Autograph Card Subset
2015 Flawless football will also include autographs from other Hall of Famers and future inductees including Roger Staubach, Dan Marino, Tom Brady and Brett Favre. Great Patches Autographs is where you’ll find some of the latter with base versions numbered to 25 as well as Blue (# to 20), Ruby (# to 15), Gold (# to 10), Emerald (# to 5) and Platinum (1/1) parallels. There are also dual-signed versions and you’ll find Joe Namath and Peyton Manning on that checklist.
Sets Within the Set
Other insert sets include Flawless Victors, which highlights past Super Bowl champions, Rookie Inscriptions featuring autographs and notes from Jameis
Winston, Marcus Mariota and others, Memorable Marks (Dick Butkus and Bo Jackson are among the inclusions), Flawless Progressions with superstar rookies who have made the progression from college ball to the NFL and Rookie Patches Autographs with first year players and large memorabilia swatches joining the on-card player signatures.
Bejeweled Base
The base set will feature real gemstones like in 2014, but with a couple of new additions for a new year — Sapphire and Ruby parallels. Panini says 2015 Flawless football will have two gemstone cards in each pack. The roster includes Diamond (numbered to 20), Ruby (numbered to 15), Sapphire (numbered to 10), Emerald (numbered to five) and Diamond 1/1s.
