The golden child of 2013 baseball cards has been sold.
The 1/1 2013 Bowman Chrome Superfractor Yasiel Puig autograph was listed on eBay Tuesday, three weeks after it was pulled from a repack product called Super Box Rookies & Phenoms during a live box break. By late Wednesday afternoon, it was gone.
The lucky winner, Canadian collector Adam Davidson, consigned the Puig through Blowout Cards, which posted it on eBay with a hopeful price tag of $34, 999. The listing indicated offers were being accepted, however, and Davidson confirmed the sale at $17,999.
The card was the holy grail of Topps products this year, after Puig ignited the Dodgers’ second half rally upon his minor league recall. With an on card signature, it was originally pulled from 2013 Bowman Chrome in late September and listed on eBay for $25,000, but was sold offline to South Bay Cards, a long-time distributor of after- market products.
South Bay put it into its Rookies & Phenoms product as a sort of ultimate chase card, as it hoped to drive sales of its product. Boxes sold for $125 each and included sketch cards, graded cards and other issues but the draw was the Puig and on December 19, several collectors participating in a group break of the product, were online when the redemption card for the product was pulled.
