2012 Upper Deck Goodwin Champions hit hobby shops on Tuesday and there won’t be any guessing. The company has already released short print information as well as a complete checklist.
Goodwin’s, a throwback to the old 19th century issue, will pack five cards per pack and 20 packs per box. The artwork used for many of the cards depicts former athletes very early in their careers and not always wearing their uniforms (see Bill Walton below) and a 1960s peace-loving Gayle Sayers (right).
The base set consists of 150 cards plus 40 short prints and 20 super short prints. There are 21 high series mini short prints as well for a total of 231 cards. There are 10 mini cards total in each box.
The inserts are highlighted by Masterpieces, numbered to 10.
Each box contains a total of three of the following:
– Hard-signed autographs
– Memorabilia cards
– Animal Kingdom patch cards
– Printing plates
Upper Deck will offer space debris and pieces of meteorite and they’re bringing back Entomology cards with butterflies, beetles and bugs and will include one 5×7 ‘World Traveler’ per box.
Civil War relics are randomly inserted including uniform buttons and even pieces of a Union flag. Upper Deck brought in a history professor to verify them.
