Topps announced Friday that the company would be adding an extra autograph to its boxes of 2012 Topps U.S. Olympic Team and Olympic Hopefuls cards. At least one online outlet reported that Topps sold all of the cases it has produced. It has also provided a checklist for the product.
Olympic Team, announced in early January via a partnership with the U.S. Olympic Committee, was released late this week. 24-count boxes contain 10 packs with current U.S. athletes and those in contention to make the 2012 Olympic team that will compete in London.
Dozens of athletes have autographed cards for the product, which also includes cut signatures of Olympic greats from the past.
The company originally solicited that every hobby box would guarantee 1 Autograph, 1 Relic and 1 Commemorative Relic. Now every other hobby box includes 2 Autographs, 1 Relic and 1 Commemorative Relic.
The Team USA collection includes 100 gold-medal hopeful cards – 40 of which feature authentic athlete-autographed special versions. The release highlights past Team USA medalists, the history of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and their diverse sports and venues, and has relic cards embedded with Olympic pins, patches and replica medals.
