The third announced football card release of 2012 will actually be the second release in total. To be released after Bowman Signatures but before Topps Football, 2012 Topps Inception Football will return after a highly-regarded freshman debut.
Details are sketchy and the final checklist is heavily dependent on the results of the draft, but the structure of 2012 Topps Inception Football will be pretty much unchanged from the previous year’s product. The base set will contain 100 cards of current NFL players, all printed on a load-bearing thick 72-point card stock and all on a design resembling a black velvet, Mexican-style gas station portrait. Each seven-card pack/box will yield two such cards and two parallels (one of which will be serial-numbered to 115 copies or less).
f course, the marquee attraction will be the on-card rookie autographs, and 2012 Topps Inception Football will contain at least 35 such players. Although the final checklist is not known each rookie will be depicted in their respective NFL uniform. With that said, Andrew, Robert, Trent, Justin and the rest of the gang will all be present. In addition to the base cards, two rookie autographs or Autographed Relics, and either a patch Relic or a jumbo-sized Relic will come in each pack. The Autographed Rookie Cards will also come in a rainbow of serial-numbered parallels ranging from “Blue” (serial-numbered to 150 copies) to “Inception” (one-of-one).
The highly-regarded “Rookie Silver Signings” (on-card rookie autographed signed in silver ink on a stunning black background) are back, and once again will be serial-numbered to twenty-five copies. The usual array of low-numbered, multi-player autographs will also be scattered in packs.
2012 Topps Inception Football is scheduled for release exclusive to Hobby outlets the week of July 9. Each seven-card pack will yield two autographs and a “Relic” card and retail in the $100 range. See a slideshow and grab the preliminary checklist below.
