There are high numbers and then there are high numbers. Topps, which creates short prints inside its regular Heritage baseball sets, is creating a season-ending 2012 Topps Heritage High Number set priced at $99.95 and available only through the company’s online store. The company began taking pre-orders Thursday for the new set, which will be limited to 1,000 sets.
Each 100-card set, numbered H576-H675 will have one autograph inserted in the box, with 1/10 red ink autographed cards inserted randomly.
The set will feature players who weren’t in the big leagues when the base set was packed out last spring including Bryce Harper, Yeonis Cespedes and Yu Darvish. It’ll also pick up some of the players who changed teams including Ichiro, who gets his first Yankees card.
The $1 per card price point may be a little scary for some collectors, especially not knowing who else is in the set or what autographs might be included. A Topps spokesman says it will be released on the company’s store website but no word on when that will be. Collectors are reacting to the set on our Facebook page.
While orders are being taken, Topps says the High Number sets won’t ship until the week of November 6.
