Last year’s Diamond Giveaway proved to be successful so 2012 Topps baseball will take the concept a step further. The company has pulled the curtain back on what its next flagship brand will offer collectors when packs hit stores the last week of January and the theme is definitely “gold”.
Topps will offer the “Golden Giveaway”, similar to last year’s online contest in which one of six packs offered a code card that could be unlocked for prizes and special cards. Among the prizes will be cards featuring tiny bits of gold embedded in them.
Topps will feature a large group of inserts again, including autographed gold coin cards (1/5), cards featuring letters from the backs of the workout jerseys of this year’s All-Stars, Epic Walk Offs, a promising concept that highlights great game-winning homers in baseball history, 1987 Topps minis and Golden Greats (15 players showcasing five career highlights each). There will be one autograph or relic card per hobby box.
Autographed cards will include Golden Moments Cut Signatures (1/1), Golden Moments, Golden Greats, Epic Walk-offs, Gold Standard, Gold Futures, Generations Duals and World Champions cards. Most will be numbered to 50 or less.
The base set of 330 cards in Series One will include 265 veterans, 30 rookies and various leader and highlight cards.
Boxes will cost $42-43 wholesale.
