Panini will utilize photos from this season’s games when producing its 2012 Panini Prizm Football issue, set to release just after the Super Bowl. It will also dispatch completely with the concept of memorabilia cards.
Instead Panini is focusing on the technology of its Prizm design, set to debut with the company’s basketball counterpart, which arrives later this year.
Prizm football will be available at both hobby and retail levels and feature a 300-card base set bolstered by 100 rookies seeded one per pack. In addition, there are autographed versions of all 100 rookies (numbered to 499 or less) and 100 of the veterans (numbered to 149 or less).
Each hobby box of 2012 Prizm Football (six cards per pack/20 packs per box/12 boxes per case) will contain two autographs, three Prizms, one hobby-only Red Prizm, one Rookie Dominance, one Decade Dominance, one Brilliance and two additional inserts.
It looks like retail boxes will be something more than just the blaster variety. Each will have four cards per pack and24 packs per box while surrendering one autograph, one Prizm, two retail-exclusive Green Prizms, one Rookie Dominance, one Decade Dominance, one Brilliance and one additional insert.
Rookie Prizm autographs will utilize 2012 NFL game photographs. Each of the 100-card autographed parallel set is limited to 99 and includes a Rookie Finite Prizm 1/1 auto version. Red Prizm Die-Cuts will be a hobby-exclusive 300-card parallel set.
Gold Prizm parallels will be numbered to 25 while the 25-card Decade Dominance insert set will honor NFL greats from the past and have three parallel versions.
2012 Panini Prizm is expected to be released in February 2013.
