Topps’ year-long 60th anniversary celebration will take a new twist in August when the company releases 2011 Topps Lineage. The new product showcases some of Topps’ classic designs while including the autographs and relic cards modern era collectors have come to expect.
The company released preliminary information and some sample images Tuesday.
Boxes will cost dealers $76-79 and contain 24 packs. Each pack will have eight base cards and each box will have three hits including two autographs, one of which is guaranteed to be on-card.
Each box will contain one box loader designed in the 1964 Topps Giants fashion. 20 different players will be featured with parallel versions featuring game-worn jersey and bat relics numbered to 64.
Topps will pay tribute in one way or another to a variety of sets including the rare 1968 Topps test issue, 1964 Topps Stand-Ups, 1977 Cloth and others.
Topps Lineage will include a 90-card mini relic set done in the multi-color design popularized in 1975.
Autographed cards will include the late Duke Snider, Yogi Berra, Red Schoendienst, Ralph Branca and Monte Irvin on 1952-style cards, a continuation of the “Happy 60th” anniversary salutations program and autographs from Hall of Famers on some of their most well-recognized card designs.
Sandy Koufax, Hank Aaron, Stan Musial, Nolan Ryan and Roy Halladay are among the autographs that will be hiding in a few packs.
The base set will consist of 200 cards with 190 past and present subjects and ten “all-time rookies”.
Topps Lineage is scheduled for release the week of August 15.
