A Kobe Bryant jersey originally purchased for just over $28,000 in 2009 sold at auction late Saturday night for $915,000.
The purple Los Angeles Lakers jersey sold by Goldin is one donned by the late Hall of Famer in Game 3 of the NBA Finals that year. Twenty-nine bids were entered for the #24 jersey, which dates to the June 9, 2009 Finals game against the Orlando Magic. While the Lakers lost the game, they would go on to win the series, 4-1, for the 15th title in franchise history.
It was one of two 2009 Bryant Finals jerseys sold shortly afterward by NBA Auctions. His Game 1 jersey went for just over $35,000. The Game 3 jersey was sold again in 2021 by Grey Flannel Auctions for $337,334.
The record price for a Bryant jersey is $5.2 million paid just over a year ago for one worn in his 2007-08 MVP season.
Another Bryant jersey, this one autographed an autographed Noche Latino Night model dating to the 2010 season, went for $79,300.
A pair of Kobe 2 USA Flag sneakers, designed as a tribute to the lives lost during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and gifted by the 23-year-old Bryant to 17-year-old LeBron James sold for $147,620. James wore them in a 2003 game against fellow high schooler Carmelo Anthony and Oak Hill Academy.
Modern basketball cards were among the other top sellers in the auction.
The 2018-19 Panini Prizm Black Prizm Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 1/1 graded PSA 9 was the second highest selling item at $196,420.
A National Treasures Gilgeous-Alexander Rookie Patch Autograph numbered to 99 and graded PSA 9 set a record when it sold for $21,960.
The 2022-23 National Treasures NBA Logoman Paolo Banchero rookie card, graded PSA 10, brought $158,612 while a 1996-97 Flair Showcase Legacy Collection Row 0 Bryant rookie card (#/150) graded BGS 10 netted $147,620.
In all, 13 items offered in the auction sold for over $100,000.
A collection of 14 1969-70 Topps Basketball unopened packs, all graded by PSA and including the original display box, sold for $148,000.
