One New Jersey family hit the mini-lottery when they pulled a dual autographed card from a pack of 2005 Upper Deck SP Legendary Cuts and sold it on eBay.
One of the top inserts in the recent Legendary Cuts series was issued in 2005 with a dual autographed 1/1 card featuring cut signatures of Babe Ruth and the man who traded him, Harry Frazee.
Babe Ruth autographs are obviously desirable, but Frazee, the one-time Red Sox owner, is difficult to find. Frazee, of course, is the man who sold the Babe to the New York Yankees in January of 1920 to help pay off debts. Ruth led the Yankees to dominance and carved out the most famous sports career in American history.
The card was pulled by a New Jersey collecting family, which consigned it to Beckett Select Auctions who sold it via eBay.
The auction closed Sunday night with a winning bid of over $21,000. The card was on display at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland this summer. A Babe Ruth autographed 1932 World Series ticket stub inserted into a pack of cards was pulled and sold earlier this year for $40,000.
