It’s not a rookie card but if you’re compiling a list of Kobe Bryant’s top cards, the 2003-04 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection Ultimate Logos Signature Game-Used Logoman patch card would certainly be on it. More than 20 years after it was issued as part of the groundbreaking Ultimate Basketball release, the one-of-a-kind card finally came to auction and sold late Saturday night at Goldin for over $1.5 million.
Both the card and Bryant’s signature were graded 9 by PSA.
The whereabouts of this card were unknown until it was submitted to PSA in 2022. Saturday’s $1,548,643 sale marked the first time it had ever been offered at auction.
The result comes 2 ½ months after the 1/1 Michael Jordan autographed Logoman from Ultimate sold for $2.9 million—the most ever paid for a Jordan card.
Several other high-end modern cards sold for six-figure prices in the auction of high-end cards and memorabilia. Three of them ended at the exact same amount of $317,200 including a 2022-23 Flawless Logoman featuring LeBron James and Steph Curry, a 1993 Upper Deck SP Derek Jeter PSA 10 and a 2017 Panini National Treasures Patrick Mahomes Holo Gold Rookie Patch Autograph #6/10 graded BGS 9.5/10.
One of the 50 1997-98 SkyBox Metal Universe Championship Precious Metal Gems Jordan cards, this one graded BGS 9, went for $268,400.
The highest priced vintage cards sold included an SGC 7 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle at $366,000 and a signed 1951 Bowman Mantle rookie card with a PSA 10 autograph at $148,840.
A black pinstriped full Jordan uniform from the 1996-97 season, with the shorts photomatched to multiple games went for $427,000. The rare style was used only for a limited number of games and the jersey carries the NBA 50th anniversary logo patch.
Bill Walton’s jersey dating to the deciding game of the Portland Trailblazers’ 1977 NBA title, autographed by the late Hall of Fame center, netted $280,600 while a jersey worn by Mahomes early in his NFL career, garnered $268,400.
A 1928 Babe Ruth model bat went for $207,400 while the jersey Shohei Ohtani wore on Jackie Robinson Day in 2023 sold for $68,340.
