The last day of the National Sports Collectors Convention was a costly one for someone and it wasn’t because they spent too much on cards.
Cleveland Police First District detectives say they are looking for thieves who broke into a vehicle at the I-X Center after the show on Sunday, July 28 and stole about $275,000 in cash.
The victim, a 48-year-old sports card dealer from New Jersey, says the theft occurred as he was loading his SUV that evening. He told police that cash, two i-Pads and the money were stored inside a black briefcase that was taken from the vehicle after he thought he’d locked it.
The bag had an air tag and police recovered it on I-X Center property shortly thereafter but the cash that had been stored inside was gone.
Police are looking for two people who left the area in the blue Honda Odyssey van pictured below.
