The world’s most famous baseball card apparently belongs to a man who knows a little something about big league ballplayers and money.
The identity of the buyer of the PSA 8 T206 Honus Wagner baseball card has been a mystery since the card changed hands again about this time last year. The New York Daily News reported Saturday night that the man who now owns it is Arizona Diamondbacks managing general partner E.G. "Ken" Kendrick.
The Wagner card was sold privately via SCP Auctions for $2.8 million in September of 2007. SCP had purchased it from Brian Siegel, who owned it for several years and displayed it at the 2006 National Sports Collectors Convention.
Kendrick is a long-time collector who, according to the story, plans to display the Wagner card in a museum the club will open at Chase Field.
