The seller says it was found at a tag sale. A 1964 Topps Stand Ups wax box caused quite a stir on eBay this week.
An eBay seller with less than perfect grammar and an unwillingness to answer questions. An “incredible find” or a bad gamble? It was a listing that tantalizee and teased those who love old, unopened wax packs.
One eBay seller with a solid feedback rating of 99.8% but not much skill as a salesman offered an ultra-rare 1964 Topps Stand Ups wax box. The seller, based in Connecticut, claims the box was found at a “tag” or yard sale. Containing 120 1-cent packs, the box drew considerable interest on eBay. The buyer was rather vague in his responses to questions posed about the box, but one buyer–reportedly from a major auction house–apparently had enough information to feel comfortable purchasing the box.
It sold for over $25,000. Mastro Auctions was the buyer with Steve Hart of Baseball Card Exchange supplying the authenticity. Mastro plans to have Hart/PSA grade the unopened packs and offer them for sale in an upcoming auction.
