A 1964-65 Gordie Howe game jersey, plus others from Mike Bossy, Patrick Roy, Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin join vintage cards and over 1200 other lots items in Classic Auctions’ Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction.
The red durene jersey worn by the legendary Howe has been matched to use in multiple photographs from the ’64-65 season and shows extensive game wear, including team repairs, stick marks and board burns.
As of early Wednesday, bidding had already surpassed $55,000 with three weeks left in the auction.
“This Gordie Howe jersey represents a pivotal era in hockey history,” stated Marc Juteau of Classi Auctions. “It’s a tangible connection to one of the greatest players ever to grace the ice.”
The Howe jersey is worn by others donned by Hall of Famers.
A Patrick Roy 1991-92 Montreal Canadiens jersey dates to the NHL’s 75th anniversary season, one in which the Hall of Fame goalie won both the Vezina and Jennings Trophies.
A 1994 Team Canada jersey worn by Mike Bossy arrives on the block from the personal collection of Patrick Sundstrom, who includes a signed letter of authenticity.
Sidney Crosby’s 2013-14 Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup Playoffs captain’s jersey is also part of the auction. It comes with a team letter of authenticity and a JerseyTRAK document.
The auction also has personal collections from former players, including Eric Lindros, Willy Lindstrom and Pierre Pilote.
Among the card lots is a near master set of 1934-43 Bee Hive photos—a collection of 303 players.
A 1951-52 Parkhurst Howe rookie (PSA 6), a complete 1936-37 OPC Series D set and a near complete graded set of 1910-11 Imperial Tobacco C56 cards are also up for grabs, along with a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle PSA 1, 1979-80 OPC Wayne Gretzky rookie PSA 7 and a 1964-65 Topps hockey set.
The auction closes Sept. 24 at classicauctions.net.
