An SGC 8 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson card topped bidding as Robert Edward Auctions closed out its September Encore Auction. The NM/MT 8 example was the highest SGC graded copy to come to public auction in over two years.
While the Robinson card fell well short of the $114,000 record price for a card in the same grade, others did exceed or challenge top prices.
A 1910 E103 Williams Caramel Ty Cobb PSA VG-EX 4 sold for a new mark of $40,800 and a 1950 Bowman #46 Yogi Berra PSA MINT 9, only one of three examples graded at this level by PSA with none higher, netted a record $33,600.
Only 17 copies of the 1907 Wolverine News Ty Cobb postcard are registered in the combined PSA and SGC population reports. REA sold one of the three best from PSA, a VG 3 copy that netted $43,200, the second highest sale ever for one of Cobb’s earliest and rarest cards.
REA says the online auction included almost 3,600 items, received in excess of 74,600 bids, and generated nearly $1.7 million in sales.
Some of the other top sales in REA’s September Auction included:

“It’s very exciting when we see the top results of our events encompass a variety of different items like we did in our September Encore,” offered Brian Dwyer, President of REA. “We had some iconic vintage items that set new records along with several modern cards, specifically current superstars, that had very strong results.”
REA’s October Encore Auction opens on October 10 while its larger Fall Catalog Auction will follow that, kicking off on November 22.
