No doubt the Babe is still popular but the price on a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #53 graded SGC 80 has dropped a bit. Ever doubt the power of a those who slab vintage baseball cards? A card graded one step higher sold for $21,000 more just a few months ago.
The market for Babe Ruth cards is usually strong, transcending from the hard-core collector base into the realm of curiosity for those who just want to own one. High grade examples are always in demand, selling well into five figures. But "bargains" can still be had among those considered good, but not quite good enough.
A 1933 Goudey Ruth card #53, graded SGC 80 (EX/NM) has sold on eBay for $7433. That’s a $1000 drop from the last two cards in the same grade, sold late last year in other auctions. Another card, graded SGC 84, sold for $28,750 in Hunt Auctions’ November sale.
