The London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games has confirmed Panini as a licensee.
Panini will create a collectible London 2012 sticker collection featuring Olympic legends and hopefuls from all over the world for distribution in Europe.
The sticker collection will go on sale in spring 2012 and will be the first of its kind for an Olympic Games. In early 2012, Panini will also launch a collectible trading card game featuring successful athletes of the past, present and future for both the Olympics and Paralympics. Panini will also publish a range of sticker sheets between now and 2012.
“Panini sticker collections are a staple of playgrounds—and offices—across the country around major sporting events and London 2012 will be no different,” says Charlie Wijeratna, London 2012’s director of commercial negotiations.
“Of course there is great fun to be had collecting and swapping stickers, but this is also an amazing opportunity for young people to find out more about Olympic and Paralympic history, sports and the athletes themselves. We’re thrilled to be working with Panini on this.”
Panini’s stickers have become a huge market worldwide. Over 7,000 listings for the company’s various issues are currently listed on eBay.
