Collectors got a glimpse of one of the methods Fanatics will likely be using for a few select sports card products as they play a much bigger role in the hobby.
On Thursday morning, the company released a Hoops Basketball Mega Box with Green Ice parallels. The Fanatics exclusive boxes with parallels that can only be found there aren’t new but the “drop” sales format is something we may be seeing more often.
Collectors could sign up and pay and if their name was selected in a random draw, they would be notified and their card would then be charged. The drop period ended at 2 PM Eastern time Thursday.
Earlier, Fanatics produced a similar product for Panini Chronicles Basketball. Those remain available at $59.99.
The live stream wasn’t exactly G-rated, but one of the music industry’s biggest names is now into sports cards.
Drake shelled out a big chunk of change for a mountain of high-end Panini basketball product recently in search of low serial numbered cards.
Meanwhile, a Layton Sports Cards break saw a top Triple Logoman emerge from Flawless Tuesday night.

Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton has partnered with Goldin for an auction of game-worn, autographed shoes to help a women’s charity.
The auction for his customized PUMA x shoes worn in a game against the Lakers earlier this month is set to run through Saturday, April 9. The proceeds will go to Women Win, a global multi-dimensional women’s fund.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the inspiring women that have shaped and inspired me,” Ayton stated. “I love the design of these shoes, and it was a special moment getting to play in them and pay tribute to some amazing women this Women’s History Month.”
The left shoe celebrates the inspiring women in Ayton’s family, and the right shoe pays homage to the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury.
As part of the partnership, Ayton will also donate $2,500 while PUMA will match up to $10,000 in donations.
Goldin says more than 75,000 bids were placed during its February Sports & Pop Culture Auction.
“While the final price realized is a good measure of how popular an item is, an equally important way to judge how sought after something is is the number of bids it receives,” said Goldin Executive Chairman and Founder Ken Goldin. “A healthy amount of bids in an auction signals overall good health in a business and an industry.”
The auction also took in $23 million in sales. As we reported earlier this week, the second best 1975 Topps Baseball set on PSA’s Registry sold for an eye-popping $600,000.
A 2006 Futera Grand Prix Lewis Hamilton card sold for $312,000, setting a new all-time high for any F1 card.
