There are only 120 lots in Memory Lane’s new Premier Auction but it’s a power packed lineup.
The two-week sale includes some very recognizable names and cards in the online catalog, many of which stand among the highest graded copies that exist.
One of only two NM/MT graded copies of the 1909 T204 Ramly Walter Johnson rookie card headlines the sale. The PSA 8 copy had crossed the six-figure mark not long after the auction opened.
One of only three copies of the T206 Ty Cobb Portrait (Green) graded PSA 7 is also among the big ticket items. Only a small number of Cobb ‘Bat Off Shoulder’ Old Mill backs graded rate higher than the PSA 6 copy being offered.
Other pre-war highlights include a T206 Cy Young graded PSA 7 and a T206 Nap Lajoie (Throwing) graded PSA 9 that stands as the highest graded example.
Also crossing into six figures in the auction is a PSA 9 1952 Bowman Mickey Mantle–one of 13 at that level with two higher. Another 9 sold in April of 2022 for $540,000.
Six other 1950s Mantle cards, all graded 8 or 9, are part of the auction including 1953 Topps and Bowman issues.
There are more vintage Roberto Clemente cards in the sale than any other player, spanning from 1956-1973 including numerous Mint 9s.
There are eight featuring Willie Mays, including one of just two 1962 Topps graded PSA 9 and a PSA 10 1970 Topps.
Four Jackie Robinson cards are on the block, including a PSA copies of his 1949 Bowman and 1952 Topps issues.
Other baseball offerings include PSA 10 rookie cards of George Brett and Rickey Henderson.
High-grade football rookie cards include Frank Gifford, Johnny Unitas and Joe Namath,
The five basketball rookie cards represent the post-war titans: Bill Russell (PSA 7), Wilt Chamberlain (PSA 8), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (PSA 8), Larry Bird/Magic Johnson (PSA 9) and Michael Jordan (PSA 8).
